Google Turns to Samsung for Chip Designs as Custom Chip Release is Pushed Back
Portfolio Pulse from Anusuya Lahiri
Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc, has delayed the release of its first fully customized chip for its Pixel phones by at least one year, pushing it to 2025. The chip, dubbed Redondo, was initially planned to replace the semi-custom chips currently designed with Samsung Electronics. Google will continue to work with Samsung for another year. Other companies like Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Amazon are also moving towards custom chips for their AI models.
