San Francisco-based startup MosaicML has conducted a test comparing AI chips from Nvidia Corp (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD), finding that AMD's chips are about 80% as fast as Nvidia's. The test used AMD's MI250 and Nvidia's A100 chips, with AMD's performance boosted by a new version of AMD software and open-source software backed by Meta Platforms Inc (META) called PyTorch.
